Help Save the St. James Calderone Theatre
Celebrate St. James Past-Present-Future, the Cultural Arts Organization committed to revitalizing the hamlet of St. James in Smithtown, Long Island, New York is launching a campaign to raise capital to purchase and restore the historic St. James Calderone Theatre.
Originally built in the early 1900’s, it is believed to have been the vehicle for many stage performances before it was purchased by the Calderone family, owners of a large chain of movie theaters.
Over the decades, the building has fallen into disrepair and lost its purpose. Now, Celebrate St. James has initiated a capital campaign to purchase and restore this iconic structure adjacent to the once thriving Lake Avenue business district and turn it into a Cultural Arts Center and Theatre for the public.
Culture Feeds the Soul Of a Community
The Celebrate St. James organization is developing a comprehensive plan for the purchase of the building and restoration of the theatre area, as well as creating a small recording studio, classrooms, meeting rooms, areas for art and music therapy, a movie museum and art gallery. This plan is estimated to cost approximately $1 to $2 million.
